About
Bonnie B. Henderson, Esq.
I practice in Monmouth County, New Jersey. This is a solo practice. When you write the office, you write me.
The short version
I have practiced as an attorney for seven years. I have taught for eight years. I am a single mom. I keep a homestead. I care about clear writing, about families that have already been through enough, and about not sending anyone into a process they cannot afford to finish.
I am passionate about advocating for people experiencing discrimination, and about working with other parents. Discrimination can mean someone was treated unfairly because they are a woman, because they are transgender, because of race or disability, or because of another protected characteristic. I take that work when it fits this office. I am not a certified civil-rights specialist, and I will say so if a matter needs a larger team.
This office is a civil practice first — small claims, Special Civil Part, landlord/tenant, and related limited-scope civil work — with published fees where they exist. Family work is a smaller part of the practice, taken when it fits. The office is for people who earn too much for legal aid and too little for a traditional retainer. I take all matters based on my case load and whether the case resonates with me. I will decline work that is not.
Experience
- Seven years as a New Jersey attorney, including litigation, advocacy, and counseling work.
- Eight years as a professor of philosophy at Rowan University.

- Healthcare claims and risk management, Rutgers University.
- Staff Attorney, Community Health Law Project — advocacy for people with disabilities, including stopping a foreclosure and securing grant funds so a veteran with a traumatic brain injury could keep his home.
- Plaintiff personal-injury and wrongful-death work in private practice.
- I also do business as Bonnie Law Consulting: on-site confidential-document AI consulting for New Jersey law firms. That is a DBA of this practice, not a second firm.
- Publisher of Plum Packet, plain-English New Jersey legal companions.

Admissions
New Jersey is the market for this practice. I do not give legal advice in jurisdictions where I am not admitted.
North Carolina is a credential, not a second office.
How the office feels
The site has pink in it, and flowers, because I am not interested in pretending this solo practice is a traditional paneled law office. The work is still careful. The fees are still written down. The ethics rules still apply.
If you want a different kind of lawyer, one who only does one sliver of the code, or one who staffs your file with three associates, that is a legitimate preference. I am a solo with a defined list of practice areas, a published hourly rate of $275 through December 8, 2026 ($350 thereafter), and published flat fees for uncontested and limited-scope work.
Other work I do
Bonnie Law Consulting is still this practice. I also do business as Bonnie Law Consulting: I go to New Jersey law firms and set up a private environment for confidential-document AI. That site is bonnielawconsulting.com.
Hiring me to set up AI for a firm is not the same as hiring me to represent you in a civil, housing, or family matter.
